She manages to launch her rickety school bus into space and steers it around the solar system, visiting the moon, the sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars before an asteroid knocks out one of the taillights. When Miss Frizzle leaves the bus to investigate, she gets lost in space, and the students visit the outer planets without her. They reconnect with her eventually, and the group ends up back in the classroom, making a chart and a mobile based on their discoveries. The planetarium is closed for repairs, so the Magic School Bus blasts off on a real tour of the solar system. After their previous field trips, the children in Ms. Frizzle's class are all blase about such things; as they land on the Moon, Venus, and Mars, and fly by the other planets and the Sun, they comment on what they see, generate a blizzard of one- or two-sentence reports on special topics and--even while Ms. Frizzle is temporarily left behind in the asteroid belt--crack terrible jokes ("Could Saturn take a bath? Yes, but it might leave a ring!"). Although some of the information is radically simplified--people are said to float in space because "without a large mass nearby . . . they do not have weight"--Cole keeps the narrative specific without burdening it with loads of facts. Degen's fresh, energetic illustrations complement the breathless pace perfectly. Basic story is good - extra information makes it hard to read to little ones

A fun story that follows the first episode of the first season of MSB pretty closely, but the extra factual information/dialogue in the margins make it hard to read to ages 4-6 (especially if they suspect you're leaving something out!). It might be more enjoyable for ages 9-10, who can benefit from that info and can read at their leisure.

geeky and intellectual, and wonderfully un-American!

This is a great, almost un American book in that kids are told that it's OK, even wonderful and wondrous to be science geeks, be curious. Love the Frizz when she says "take chances, get messy, make mistakes," and encourages her students to explore. In a society that elevates sports and violence for boys, and beauty and cattiness for girls, this series stands out for encouraging gender neutral intellectualism and academic achievement. My geeky 5 year old can't get enough, having finally found fictional characters that reflect her and encourage her. Factual substance-wise, I as a 40 year old have learned tons.

comic-book format for learning

I am impressed with the way the comic-book style of this book can really teach. The pages have the storyline text, and then plenty of puns and quips, some dialog, associated reasearch projects done by the class, charts, and great illustrations.

This is a series, so to get you familiar, Ms. Frizzle is a teacher who takes her class on field trips. Their school bus can change and transport them anywhere, so the field trips end up being real experiences. The books do a tremendous job of carrying the story and the visuals.

As a mom, the puns do little for me, but my seven-year-old really likes them and repeats them. Good enough.

A Real Concise Guide

This was the text book used in culinary school for Foodservice Purchasing. It was good and concise but I think it lacked some "meat and potatoes" (no pun intended) when it came to content. It had a lot of examples but maybe add some exercise or maybe follow a real life kitchen scenario. I found myself supplementing with other books to complete my tasks in class.

THE book about pre-Meiji Japanese coinage as written in 1904.

Well, predominantly pre-Meiji, though there is some Meiji type coinage included.

In any case, this book was written in 1904 by a Scottish expat/physician/anthropologist and was the most detailed and complete book (some say in English OR Japanese, but as my Japanese skills are nil I can't guarantee that is true) regarding the topic. Nothing ever really approached it and as such this has been a highly sought after resource.

Highly sought after means--'difficult to find and extremely expensive' (I googled and an original first edition can be found for 250 British Pounds at the moment if that gives you an idea--and a 1962 reprint for a bit under 200 US dollars).

Nowadays however, in the world of 'public domain' much can be had that was never available before. Of course, 'much' is garbage too in terms of quality of the copy and materials as well.

This particular book is a US printed version published by Ishi press in 2010 (Amazon does have a way of 'lumping' reviews sometimes and, particularly with public domain titles, it pays to be careful to understand what edition a given review is written for). As such the copy is pretty clear--of course the color plates do not translate as well the pictures of the originals I've seen appear to be quite beautiful while these are very workable. The text and illustrations are clear--clearly a copy, but clear. The paper and binding are of apparent good quality and this particular version is quite nice enough for the basic personal library.

This is highly recommended for the study of Japanese coinage--short of an original copy--just ensure you are getting the version that this review pertains to. Most excellent as a historical document as well!

Excellent work, but terrible presentation

Coin of Japan by Neil Munro is probably one of the most important early works on the history of Japanese coinage. However the current rendition of Munro's work suffers tremendously in this unsuccessful transition to the avenues of Kindle and electronic publication. To myself, a long time collector of Japanese coinage, it is almost useless due to the multitude of errors in transposing Japanese characters to the electronic audience. Far better to purchase a copy of the original or even the 1960's era reprint.

This reproduction of the classic book by Munro is a good reference if text is important. Most illustrations are fair and several pages are incorrectly copied , distracting from the image as printing in reverse over the illustrations and too dark, undecipherable images detract from the usefulness as a prime reference.

Su abuelo paterno Eligio Madan y Madan Awo de orunmila llamado religiosamente IFANLA, nieto de eslavo y oriundo de Jovellanos en las provincia De Mantanzas. Su Abuela Materna Belen Hernandez de Madan una santera famosa oriunda de la cuidad de la habana hija de Obatala. Su padre Eligio Madan hijo de Osun y Awo de Orunmaila con El Odu Ogbe wale, su abuela materna. La Famosa santera santiaguera Rosa Torrez (Shango Gumi) quien fuero una de las primeras santeras de esa ciudad y nieta de Ma. Braulia negra liberta de esa localidad; Su madre Veneranda Constanten hija de Obatala, dedico toda su vida a la labor religiosa fundamentalmente en la santeria. Ingeniero en Electricidad, Instituto superior Politecnico Jose A. Echevarria (ISPJAE) Inventor y musico. Siendo un nino se inicio en el mundo de la musica como violinista y despues como aprendiz de la percusion afro-cubana. Curso estudios de electrividad en la escuela de Artes u Ofricio de su ciudad natal y en 1978 egresa de la ISPJAE conel titulo de ingenieria electrica, alli tambien se desarrolllo en la musica y en la danza afro-cubana. En la decada de los anos 80 desempena los cargos de director de ciencia y tecnica y mas tarde como vicepresidente tecnico y especialista de la industria de la produccion de instrumentos musicales del ministerio de cultura. La experiencia acumulada y la inspiracion que le produjo la obra del norteamericano Charles Muller le permitieron crear y proyectar en 1982 su primer invento: El Electrobata

This book "The Master's Touch" truly gives you an inside look into the mind of Yogi Bhajan. It will have you thinking and pondering questions about life for days. Questions about how Western society lives its life compared to Eastern society and all the mysteries of life. This book is a must have for any Kundalini Yoga teacher. Most teacher training courses include this as part of their programs, but in case yours doesn't, pick up a copy of this book. You may even save on the cost of your program if you order this ahead. You will definitely be ahead of the pack if you order this before you start your teacher training program. I think the book does live up to its sub-title "Being a Sacred Teacher for the New Age." I especially like the part about living from a place of reverence instead of self-reference "I am so and so's son, he is my preacher, teacher, etc." If you want to shine bright with radiance, live like a master, and cement your reputation as royalty, buy this book ;)
